C-68 improved the situation, it was C-17 that led to the OICs. It amended section 84 of the Criminal Code to allow guns to be classified using OICs and that section was rewritten by C-68, which requires them to be done via regulations approved by Parliament. That’s the reason why it’s never happened since 1995, because it would have to be done by regulation, the guns would be banned and there would be no grandfathering unless section 12 of the Act was amended as well. It’s just too much hassle for Parliament to do all of that. I don’t really see what the purpose of having the power to prohibit by regulation in section 84 is. It can’t be used without amending legislation. C-68 was just badly worded on that point. I suppose they could just arbitrarily ban them but I doubt that would be supported by the courts under section 92(13) of the Constitution.

This is the SAME gun that most Switzerland citizens have at home. BTW it is LAW in Switzerland that all homes MUST have a gun! They have the lowest crime rates in the world. Wake-up people. This is not about ‘keeping our kids safe’ This is about controlling populations when the economy collapses.
